And to Vanessa

The Child in My Heart

Sedona
A prisms palette on display
From dawn till dark of night

God's resting place that seventh day
To heaven our first link

Snoopy and his Brew

I shared my chocolate brimming hot
From the Java Pink Cafe
With Snoopy lying on the rocks
Who greeted me this day

He called my name to say hello Been friends for many years
And asked me for a muffin bran
To wash away his tears

It seems he had not eaten well
When last he did recall
And all the tourists passing by Would not feed him at all

So I grabbed my muffin and my cup And shared them with my friend And now through all eternity
Sweet greetings he will send

To the cottonwoods in the forest glen
Of the valley down below
And even when the blizzards come And his eyes are full with snow

Now evermore you'll see him smile
As you slowly pass him by
He's silhouetted in the sun
Against the azure sky

Sedona Sweet Sedona

Your mountains full with mystery
With history and lore
As oracles they rise and speak
Then energy restore

All weathered by the elements Like whales out from the sea
They crest each red rock mountain range
Their treasures shared for free

A town where folks gregarious
Upon each winded way
Do watch the mountain auras change
Pure nature on display

You are the place where artists dream
Then images reveal
True beauty that's forevermore
The nighttime does conceal

A place of orange and red and beige
Of silver and of green
A village most magnificent
A rustic western scene

You bring new life most every day In colors mauve through pink
God's resting place that seventh day
To heaven our first link

Your quaint and quiet majesty
At sunrise is revealed
With canyon breezes whispering
Life's secrets are unsealed

You are a place to promenade
To shop and sing and play
Where crystals always sparkle pure
And life renews each day

Sedona sweet Sedona
Where love of life comes true
Your radiance and elegance
Are always shining through

Sedona Revelations

I've always been connected
Yet never quite aware
That love divine is flowing through
To which none can compare

These thoughts of peace do bring the strength
To focus and define
The days and weeks and months and years
That now I must refine

Experience enables me
To step outside life's realm
And set my course to dreams fulfill
With me here at the helm

The oceans may be treacherous
The mountains far too high
Yet still my focus will remain
So I might reach the sky

It's then I'll feel the energy That's always flowing there
Timeless in its essence
With love beyond compare

And too that's when I'll understand
Life's meaning and true worth
For when I touch life's energy
Its then I'll find rebirth

David L Devaney

The Healers and the Artists Came

The God of life did rest that day
The seventh one I'm told
And spread his beauty through this land
Of blue and red and gold

An imprint he would leave behind
For all mankind to share
Great beauty and pure energy
To which none can compare

Then through the years and centuries
The healers first were drawn
Life's energy so mystical
Was shared then passed along

A Shaman spread the word about
"This energy is pure"
Come heal thyself my fellow man
These mountains have the cure

And with the healers artists came
To see this precious land
A place of special mystery
Upon which they could stand

To them God's spectrum was revealed
Of energy and light
A prisms palette on display
From dawn till dark of night

Sculptor's artist's connoisseurs
Of all things men must feel
Did climb these red rock mountaintops
To paint and sculpt and heal

This land was their enchantment too
Like Arthur's "Camelot"
A kingdom for the magical
That time had not forgot

So next time you're adventuring And need some place to hide
Come north to old Sedona town
And find God by your side

That Second Day

We gathered once again this day
Much better all did feel
Now energized by Reiki love
And full with warmth and zeal

With Choku Rei and Sei heiki
And Hon Sha Ze Sho Nen
Our Reiki lessons were fulfilled
So we pure love could send

Day one the first attunement shared
Brought precious energy
That's with us now and evermore
With strength and clarity

The second day experience
Taught wisdom with respect
As each of us did see the light To which we would connect

Great mentors were our teacher guides
Like friends from long ago
Through many lives with many thoughts
They helped us all to grow

Vague images uncertain once
Confusing yesterday
In brightness shared loves ecstasy
From which we'll never stray

Then mists of purple green and gold
In silence did appear
Revealing with true certainty That God had drawn us near

David L Devaney

Apple Ave. at Eighty Nine

The sun was brightly setting there
Southwestern in the sky
Great pinnacles from mountains rose
On them life does rely

For fantasy and ecstasy
Within their hearts are found
Three hundred million years of lore
With tales that do astound

Conversing silent through the wind
Yet few do stop to hear
These melodies and symphonies
That daily draw them near

The orchestra great conifers
That to the mountains cling
The chorus heard is mystical
When cottonwoods all sing

And in each nook and cranny viewed
Iced snow flakes linger on
In winter when the cold arrives
The warm light south has gone

And in that instant night arrives
The symphonies won't play
As star filled skies start sparkling
And mountains fade away

These images from Apple Ave
At State Route Eighty Nine
Where Uptown Old Sedona
Dose all life redefine

David L Devaney

Kurama the Sacred Mountain

The forest seems to effervesce
Upon this muraled wall
One small abode is beckoning
As now I do recall

The fauna on the rooted ground
Protects our Mother Earth
Great trees long straight and narrow grow
Depicting life's rebirth

This doorway to a future world
Brings sensitivity
Then opens vistas to new dreams
And life creatively

Each branch upon the trees expose
The sunlight to each heart
A sense of new beginnings shared
As lifetimes here do start

And too a camaraderie
Is in this place now found
As loves true strength and energy
Does everywhere abound

Blessed people gathered from afar
All transient in time
Will soon begin life's parallel
So every day might rhyme

They'll share a perfect energy
To light their path and grow
Then one true life experience
For them will start to flow

David L Devaney

Sedona A First Glance

The essence of pure love is found
A threshold its first source
Reflecting through each friendly smile
And by their kind discourse

The sense of real tranquility
Emitting from this place
Does make great burdens disappear
And leaves no single trace

It's where an energy of love
Is silently revealed
Connecting to a universe
With fear forever sealed

The sense of kindness everywhere
Does help each heart renew
With joy and true enlightenment
Caressing all of you

There is a sparkle in each heart
Most everywhere you turn
Absorbed into the consciousness
As of new dreams we learn

Restful in this mountain town
The earth does course its veins
As auras and their energy
Resound most sweet refrains

There is a sense of comfort here
That's readily transformed
Through Reiki and through spirit work
A life can be reformed

Then every moment evermore
Much better man will be
For each new day the sun does rise
To bring love's harmony

David L Devaney

Questions in Sedona

When life becomes most purposeful
Will I it recognize
Or will each moment of each day
Still wear its dark disguise

Will I accept alternatives
Then change what I perceive
And in the future of my time
Will I in truth believe

And will I be of consequence
By loving as I must
Sharing life's true energy
With those who share my trust

Will I need knowledge to succeed
In being what I choose
Or slip and slide back into time
Where I quite often lose

Allowing anger and mistrust
To once again appear
Forgetting that I have become
A mentor and a seer

Will I predict my future path
As I through lifetimes grow
And charge the precious energy That through my veins does flow

So many questions obvious
The answers yet to be
Great challenges to overcome
As I'm becoming me

David L Devaney

We Traveled Through Sedona East

We traveled through Sedona east
One winter's afternoon
The year and decade eight days old
The chorus winds did croon

The sky was crystal clear this day
The mountains all adorned
With beauty so inspiring
Each driver need be warned

To watch the highway into town
The auras could them wait
Or through the ditch and down the hill
Might be their final fate

Each bend brought panoramic views
Like none we'd seen before
Sun sparkled red rocks would appear
Their beauty not obscure

Up and down and round about
Each mountain had its name
These rocks protruding did reveal
No two were quite the same

Each wore its gown majestically
A princess at the ball
With sage and silver cottonwoods
Like sequins on them all

Yet still our heads were spinning round
To see this beauty rare
Of vistas most magnificent
To which none can compare

And though the winter's sun did set
And hide their loveliness
Forever through eternity
Our dreams they will caress

David L Devaney

The Pink Java Visitor

She came with journal in her hand
Recording what she saw
Her dark brown hair and shoes of green
I vividly recall

A cup of water in her hand
To wash the dry away
New thoughts were flowing constantly
Recorded here today

I wondered what was on her mind
Was it of consequence
It mattered not what she did write
For there was no pretense

Local or a visitor
No need for me to know
Recording feelings was her task
When thoughts at last did flow

From deep within her heart of hearts
Her secrets she would scroll
Fond memories of times well lived
When life demands no toll

Just then the time one thirty struck
Departing thoughts were shared
That beauty found within our dreams
In life goes uncompared

David L Devaney

A Cloudless Sky

The clouds are my menagerie
Against the sky so blue
When all alone and by myself
They can my life renew

Therein are angel guardians
Great buffalos and whales
The masts of seaborne pirate ships
Each galleon's billowed sails

Sometimes I see the face of God When he on earth does smile
Dancing girls and puppeteers
And things that do beguile

On stormy days they're ominous
Yet beautiful to see
When leaving they will rainbows form
Creating fantasy

Yet one day in Sedona town
I looked upon the sky
And though I saw for fifty miles
Not one cloud did I spy

Across the mountains through the plains
As high as eagles soar
No clouds appeared to share with me
Their beauty and allure

Twas then I recognized at last
The many moments lost
When nature had been shared with me
With not one single cost

So from that moment on through time
I'll always recognize
That everything most beautiful
Is right before my eyes

Like Friars

Like Friars near the altar's heart
These figures stand and pray
A mountain chapel was there realm
As we passed by today

Two monoliths were resting there
Each one with different pose
They watched the sunset to the south
As life did juxtapose

Here too would transformation come
To frailties in life
Each rock faced figures countenance
Revealed great wars and strife

These watchers through the centuries
Were now those scrutinized
By spirits searching for those dreams
That time does oft disguise

Three hundred million years or more
Yet still they do await
The ecstasy that will appear
When mankind knows his fate

Then through their image we will find
Man's purpose and true goal
To bring life into harmony
In Body Mind and Soul

David L Devaney

Big Dan the Sedonan Cabbie

Big Dan was Arizona bred
Just north of Mexico
And though he's tasted sixty years
Down south he'll never go

He rather chose Sedona North
Its mountains and its lore
To greet the folks all coming through
That take his taxi tour

His beard is long and scraggly gray
His voice proud energy
Assuredly he loves this place
And knows its history

At first they were six thousand strong
All hardy and life worn
These tourists on their daily quests
Some happy some forlorn

Yet through the years Dan saw things change
And millions came to ride
That two lane highway through the land
Where mountains never hide

And as the Red Rock's energy
Pulsates from every peak
The people come to stay and find
That beauty they all seek

Then when they finally do arrive
Big Dan's behind the wheel
Regaling them in history
With true Sedona Zeal

Ten bucks will get you round about
And maybe too cross town
But most importantly of all
This cabbie of renown

David L Devaney

The Spirit of Sedona

Its gift is a connection
Into a central source
Where goodness is most prominent
And love is life's true force

It's shared through a bequeathing
That flows on endlessly
And here we find the touch of God's
Creative energy

Its colors all familiar too
Though not that often seen
These lovely misted rainbow shades
Of purple, gold and green

This marvelous experience
Like none we've known before
Fulfillment shared through precious love
And balance is the cure

To finding peace upon this earth
Through people one by one
For since mankind has lost his way
These healings have begun
